David Cameron has handled the Panama Papers disclosures really badly. And I can't tell if he or his family have been up to something dodgy. However, it does seem that the media are flailing about to pin some blame on him for what seem like fairly innocent actions.
Inheritance Tax ("IHT") has, for at least 30 years, worked like this: give stuff away and live 7 years, and the gift is free of IHT. Tax avoidance is about using rules to make them do something that wasn't intended. Suggesting that using 30 year old rules that everyone knows about is "avoidance" seems to be trying to redefine the word.
