This is a "must read" for everyone involved with charities - trustees, paid workers, volunteers, donors/funders & auditors.
I remain concerned about the sector over promising and under delivering on the support it gives to beneficiaries, in this case, vulnerable children & young people and their families. How many people served and supported by charities feel able to give honest feedback or complain? The changes in funding for public services creates an increasing demand of charities, not to mention the disconnect between national and local government policies and funding. There is no room for complacency by boards of trustees.
The report also has recommendations for the regulator, the Charity Commission, in terms of its powers and funding.
The Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee (PACAC) find that while ultimate responsibility lies with the charity’s "negligent" trustees, Government and regulators such as the Charity Commission must also learn lessons from this failure.
