The Charity Commission (CCEW) has just published its annual report on its regulatory work. The volume of inquiries by the CCEW has increased significantly this year. The Protection of Charities Bill seeks to increase the powers available to the CCEW. Some commentators think these may be giving too much power to the CCEW and would potentially deter trustees. The themes/issues highlighted in the report are around financial mismanagement; safeguarding; risk of abuse for terrorist related purposes; governance failures; abuse of charity status; and fundraising. It's worth taking a look at the detailed report and learning from the mistakes or oversights of others.
